The Veteran and Military Connected Student Lounge in the University of Delaware's Trabant University Center is a newly refreshed space that previously housed our leadership program. The lower-level lounge space lacked branding and signage and had a few navigational issues. The new space competed with the student-frequented package center and Amazon lockers, which can be confusing. It also blended into the background without a clear purpose, hidden away with no form of identification, outdated signs, or none at all.
Student Life Communications & Marketing was on the case. The addition of this honorary bright blue mural showcasing the seven military branches surrounds the entire wall, and golden camouflage encases the doors, quickly branding the space. Overnight, the visible storefront, now with an obvious title, allowed for open doors and called out the entrance to usher in and welcome veterans.
The cozy space offers snacks, coffee, and study space for veterans to enjoy and hosts events throughout the year. It also houses offices for our University veteran support staff and an improved home for Blue Hen Veterans (BHV), UD's official Student Veterans of America chapter.
